Swimming Lessons

One session of swimming lessons are provided for free for member's children. An additional session may be purchased for $45.

Lesson Levels

Six levels of swim instruction are provided.

Level 1: Water Exploration

3 years and up. No requirements.

This class is designed for beginners to promote water comfort and to develop beginning level


  • Pool safety (entering and exiting water safely)
  • Blowing bubbles and breath control
  • Kicking skills
  • Float on back and front (with support)
  • Open eyes underwater and retrieve submerged object

Level 2: Primary Skills

Passed level 1 or can do supported kick on stomach with face in the water and supported kick on back


  • Entering eater by stepping or jumping from the side of the pool
  • Submerging of entire head and opening eyes underwater
  • Kicking independently with kick board
  • Front and back glide (unsupported)
  • Propel self at least 5 yards in water

Level 3: Stroke Readiness

Passed level 2 or can fully submerge with no fear if water and can propel self for at least 5 years in water


  • Jumping into deeper water
  • Submerging and retrieving and object
  • Bobbing
  • Survival float (at least 30 seconds)
  • Introduces freestyle and backstroke
  • Can kick on back
  • Able to jump in water and swim back to wall

Level 4: Stroke Development

Passed level 3 or can do 10 yards of freestyle/backstroke along with 10 yards of kicking on back


  • Head first entry from sitting or kneeling
  • Streamlines off wall (front and back)
  • Side breathing in freestyle
  • front or back crawl for 15-25 yards
  • open turns on wall
  • begins to learn how to tread water

Level 5: Stroke Refinement

Passed level 4 or can do front crawl for 25 yards


  • flip turns
  • introductory of butterfly and breaststroke
  • focuses in on treading water (30seconds to a minute)
  • standing dive
  • can do 25-50 yards of freestyle
  • can do 25 yards of backstroke

Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency

Passes level 5 or can do 50 yards of freestyle, 25 yards of backstroke, 15 yards of breaststroke, and has a good understanding of butterfly


  • teaches butterfly and breaststroke techniques – where swimmers feel comfortable with these strokes
  • flip turns
  • refines freestyle and backstroke techniques
  • 1-2 minutes of survival float
  • 1-2 minutes of treading water
  • Can do up to a 100 yards of freestyle and backstroke
  • Can retrieve item from deep end
